Khutba Campaign - December 2, 2011

The Canadian Association of Muslims with Disabilities (CAM-D) and Muslims with Disabilities International (MDI) mark
U.N. International Day for Persons with Disabilities by mobilizing the Muslim Community across Canada and around the world to reflect on Disability and Islam in order to work “Together for a Better World for all.”

Join Mosques, Islamic Centres and Schools on  Friday, December 2, 2011to raise awareness about the Islamic tradition of disability rights and our obligation to include everyone.

Muslims who:

  • Are deaf have little access to learning and experiencing Islam;
  • Are blind have limited opportunity to learn how to read the Quran in Arabic Braille;
  • Have physical disabilities and use wheelchairs cannot enter most mosques;
  • Have intellectual disabilities and their families have no support within the Muslim community; and,
  • Have no long-term support strategies within the Islamic tradition.

CAM-D is coordinating a comprehensive, collaborative model of supports and needs your help.

On December 2nd, 2011 please give whatever you can to support CAM-D’s work.

On December 2nd, please dedicate your khutbas to the topic of disability. Let’s work together for a better word where our sisters and brothers with vision loss, hearing loss, intellectual disabilities like autism, physical disabilities, mental illness, all forms of disabilities and their families, have access to our mosques and Islamic centers, at our events and activities, and our programs. Imam Zaid Shakir Endorsement November 2011

"Bismillahi Arrahmani Arraheem, Alhamdulillahi Rabi Ala’alameen, This is Imam Zaid Shakir here in Sunny California reaching out to all my brothers and sisters in Greater Toronto Area to encourage you to support the upcoming program of CAM-D (Canadian Muslims with various disabilities) Our support is critical brothers and sisters to help all members of our communities to have access, to have education, to have opportunities that many are being denied now because the resources do not exist. Our community possesses the necessary resources but we sometimes don’t have the necessary consciousness. So this program is designed to raise consciousness and resources. Support the program it won’t happen without your support. Our prophet mentioned, salla Allahu alihi wa sallam,” La you’mino ahadokom hatta youhibba li akhehi ma youhibo lenafsih” No one of you truly believes until he loves for his brother/sister or her brother/sister, what he loves for himself. Brothers and sisters we should all love for all of our community to be enabled and not a single member of our community to be disabled because of our neglect and our insensitivity. Let’s get involved, CAM-D. Be there.

As-salamu Alikom wa Rahmatu Allahi Wa Barakatuh"
